-115 km, prende in mano la situazione la Mercatone Uno: Schleck davanti rimane passivo e dietro tira Quintana, che mette in difficoltà due leader come Merckx (Yellow) e Koblet (CCC). Giro d'Italia decisamente al di sotto delle attese per il Cannibale, in casa Yellow dovranno capire gli errori commessi in fase di preparazione e puntare sul Tour.

 

 

-39 km, mancano 3 chilometri alla vetta del Passo delle Erbe quando scatta Pantani (Mercatone Uno)!! Bahamontes (Generale Pompe Funebri) non se lo lascia sfuggire! L'unico della top10 a staccarsi è Frantz (Cofidis-Alcyon), andato in crisi nel corso della salita. Da qualche tempo Merckx e Koblet sono rientrati.

 

 

-35 km, in discesa reagisce Binda (Astana)!! La corsa è esplosa presto, probabilmente ci saranno grandi distacchi all'arrivo.

 

 

Ecco il quadro della situazione, ci sono corridori da tutte le parti, chi si stacca adesso rischia di prendersi una bastonata all'arrivo.

 

 

-28 km, Pantani e Bahamontes come spesso è capitato non hanno trovato un accordo per collaborare e vengono risucchiati dal gruppetto maglia rosa. Davanti Ganna ha fatto il vuoto, sembra il più forte dei fuggitivi quest'oggi.

 

 

-20 km, sul Furcia riparte Pantani!! Girardengo (Euskadi) e Bartali (Carlsberg) sprecano le loro cartucce per cercare di ricucire il gap!

 

 

-10 km, siamo quasi sul muro finale di Plan de Corones. Eddy Merckx getta la spugna e si stacca, segnali non molto confortanti per Bahamontes che è boccheggiante in coda al gruppo inseguitore. Pantani tenta l'impresa e raggiunge Ganna, l'ultimo fuggitivo rimasto.

-8 km, mentre il Pirata stacca Ganna, attacca Alfredo Binda!!! Azione decisa la sua, nessuno sembra avere le forze per stargli dietro. Il vantaggio di Pantani è salito vertiginosamente a 1'10", potrebbe ritornare con prepotenze nelle prime posizioni della generale.

 

 

-5 km, è il momento dello sterrato: Binda è a dir poco eccezionale e si riporta sotto a Pantani. Bartali tenta il tutto per tutto cercando di utilizzare le ultimissime energie rimaste. La maglia rosa è rimasta con Bottecchia (Vacansoleil-Automoto), Fignon (Bmc-Renault) e Bahamontes, tutti e quattro molto provati.

 

 

-1 km, Binda è a pochi metri da Pantani, vediamo chi ne ha di più per vincere il tappone!! Il piemontese ha un vantaggio di 1' abbondante su Bartali. Bahamontes in grande difficoltà, staccato da Bottecchia; ancora peggio la maglia rosa che si trova dietro anche a Fignon.

 

 

MARCO PANTANI trionfa a Plan de Corones!!! Favoloso anche Binda che in 8 chilometri ha mangiato un minuto pieno al vincitore, oggi la maglia rosa avrà un nuovo padrone...

 

 

Questi distacchi per una classifica così corta sono fondamentali, ma ricordiamo che ci sono ancora 5 tappe importantissime.

 

 

La nuova maglia rosa è Alfredo Binda!! Cambia di nuovo il padrone della corsa e manca ancora una settimana di battaglie.

15^ TAPPA

Penultima tappa pianeggiante di questo Giro d'Italia, i velocisti presumibilmente non si faranno sfuggire l'occasione. Dovrebbe essere una tappa tranquilla in vista delle montagne dei prossimi giorni.

 

 

Nessuno tenta la fuga per il semplice motivo di non sprecare energie in vista delle prossime quattro tappe decisive, ci avviciniamo allo sprint intermedio con i treni in testa al gruppo.

 

 

-117 km, Zabel (Team Sky) batte Poblet (Yellow), Van Looy (Radioshack-Faema) e Petacchi (Lampre-Merida). Darrigade (Euskadi) non ha fatto lo sprint probabilmente per averne di più nel finale.

 

 

-70 km, tentano la fuga in 4: Adorni (CCC), Mottiat (Cofidis-Alcyon), Riviere e Garin (Generale Pompe Funebri). Non so cosa ha in mente la squadra genovese per piazzare due suoi uomini in fuga...

 

 

-20 km, i fuggitivi vengono ripresi senza problemi dal plotone lanciato, anche oggi non sarà una tappa di riposo.

 

 

-13 km, attenzione caduta!!! In questa curva a gomito Zandegù (Mercatone Uno) cade a terra trascinando giù anche Bartali (Carlsberg) e la maglia rossa Bottecchia (Vacansoleil-Automoto)!!!

-2 km, davanti tirano a tutta, sta per partire la volata finale. Merckx lancia Poblet mentre Leoni guida Darrigade. Disastro assoluto per Bottecchia e Bartali che stanno perdendo 2'44", tanta sfortuna per loro.

 

 

-1 km, Poblet guadagna metri sugli avversari, non sembra esserci storia.

 

 

Vince facile MIGUEL POBLET!!! Secondo Zabel davanti a Van Looy e Leducq (Euskadi). Aspettiamo il distacco di Bartali e Bottecchia che purtroppo vedono compromessa la loro situazione in classifica generale.

 

 

Lavoro perfetto della Yellow con un grande e generoso Merckx a tirare la volata vincente al campione spagnolo. Bartali e Bottecchia arrivano naufragati a 3'59" dal vincitore di tappa.

 

 

Bartali perde 2 posizione e vede allontanarsi il podio, non impossibile vista la crono che può sfruttare a suo vantaggio.

 

 

Dopo il giorno di riposo torna a vincere la Spagna, prepariamoci a questi ultimi 5 giorni pieni di sorprese.

Tappa di conformazione chiarissima: Passo dello Stelvio, Passo del Mortirolo, Passo Gavia e la salita finale per arrivare a Bormio 2000. Terreno favorevole a attacchi da lontano, prepariamoci a tutto.

 

 

Sullo Stelvio si compone la fuga: Christophe (Vacansoleil-Automoto), Landis (Generali-Ina Assitalia), Pambianco (Carlsberg), Balmamion (Orica-Sanson), Mottet (Bmc-Renault) e Massignan (Argos-Legnano).

 

 

-53 km, sul falsopiano dopo il Mortirolo si avvantaggiano in 6: Van Impe (Cannondale), Parra (Mercatone Uno), Adorni (CCC), Leducq (Euskadi), Pottier (Ag2r-Peugeot) e Bugno (Garmin-Atala).

 

 

-44 km, ai piedi del Gavia ci prova Merckx (Yellow)!! Nessuno crede nell'azione del belga e se ne va da solo all'inseguimento dei fuggitivi che intanto si sono compattati.

 

 

-36 km, nella galleria attacca Pantani (Mercatone Uno) e riprende tutti tranne il Cannibale comunque a tiro del Pirata. Hanno risposto bene Bartali (Carlsberg), Bahamontes (Generale Pompe Funebri) e Binda (Astana) all'inseguimento dei primi.

 

 

-34 km, in vetta al Gavia Bahamontes ha staccato Binda e Bartali, il suo problema è che ci sono tanti chilometri di discesa.

 

 

-15 km, si capovolge la situazione: Merckx viene raggiunto da Binda, Pantani, Bartali e Bottecchia (Vacansoleil-Automoto). Bahamontes non ha retto il ritmo in discesa e si è staccato, ora accusa ben 1' di ritardo.

-8 km, comincia la salita finale e parte Pantani, vediamo se ha la forza di riprendersi la rosa!!

 

 

-1 km, da dietro non si muove nessuno e Pantani vola verso il traguardo, il suo vantaggio è salito a oltre 1'20"!! Bahamontes invece va in crisi e sprofonda a 4' abbondanti.

 

 

Vince MARCO PANTANI!!! Il Pirata rischia di perdere dei secondi preziosi esultando così presto, non può concedersi queste leggerezze.

 

 

 

Binda conclude 5° dietro a Bartali, Merckx e Bottecchia, non ha dato un grande segnale di forza agli avversari, ma ha comunque la crono dalla sua parte.

 

 

Ormai la vittoria finale sembra essere affare di Pantani e Binda, mentre per il podio è una bella lotta tra diversi corridori. Chissà quanti rammarichi avrà Bartali dopo la debacle di ieri.

 

 

Chi oggi non ha recuperato bene domani rischia di andare in crisi, sarà veramente una maratone di 7 ore o più.

17^ TAPPA

Tappa infarcita di salite dall'inizio alla fine, perfetto per chi deve recuperare. L'unica nota stonata del percorso è l'ultima salita, forse inserita presto poiché dopo lo scollinamento ci sono tanti chilometri ad andare al traguardo.

 

 

Sul primo Gpm attaccano in 6: Roche (Generali-Ina Assitalia), Balmamion (Orica-Sanson), Speicher (Fdj-Mercier), Savoldelli (Katusha-T Mobile), Rasmussen (Cannondale) e la maglia azzurra Madiot (Team Sky).

 

 

-45 km, fino a due chilometri dalla vetta del Passo San Marco non succede nulla. Ci prova Bottecchia (Vacansoleil-Automoto) con Van Impe (Cannondale) a ruota. Pantani (Mercatone Uno) gestisce la situazione senza problemi e torna sotto, aspettiamo la reazione degli avversari. Intanto in testa alla corsa sono rimasti Balmamion e Roche con 6'30" di vantaggio, molto probabilmente la tappa se la giocheranno loro.

 

 

-33 km, in discesa nessuno tira e rientrano praticamente tutti, rimangono solo i 2 fuggitivi al comando.

 

 

-27 km, Roche stacca Balmamion!! L'irlandese rompe gli indugi e se ne va da solo. Vediamo se l'italiano riesce a rientrare, il gruppo non recupera niente e il vantaggio rimane di 6'30".

 

 

-5 km, è un assolo: Balmamion ha perso le tracce dell'irlandese che conquista una bella tappa, tra i big calma piatta. Domani ci sarà una nuova maglia azzurra: Il Falco Savoldelli.

 

 

C'è un solo protagonista quest'oggi che approfitta anche della tregua tra i big per cogliere un successo di tappa: STEPHEN ROCHE!!! Aspettiamo la volata per il terzo posto.

Pantani anticipa Binda (Astana) di mezza ruota, poi arrivano Bartali (Carlsberg) e Girardengo (Euskadi).

 

 

Anche oggi la sistemazione del podio è inguardabile, ma festeggiamo la seconda tappa in casa Generali dopo la cronosquadre. Nessun distacco dove ci si poteva aspettare una tappa spumeggiante, peccato.

 

 

Pantani guadagna 8" in vista della cronometro decisiva di domani, dovrà difendersi con le unghie il Pirata.

 

 

Si aggiunge alle nazioni con almeno una vittoria l'Irlanda, da notare l'assenza di Germania e Olanda, non certo venute con ambizioni di protagonismo.

C'è un problema non da poco: nella cronometro di Lecco non comincia la gara la maglia rosa. Partono tutti fino a Binda, poi Pantani non compare. Non so se darlo come ritirato (ormai non c'è più l'effetto sorpresa) o risolvere il problema con il vostro aiuto?
